What is the Young Person's Reference Group?
Young Persons Reference Group is for young people who are passionate about making a difference in their community. Through the development of leadership and advocacy skills, members of the YPRG advise Council directly on issues that effect young people. A member of the Monash Council (currently Cr Charlotte Baines) attends the meetings and reports regularly to Council on the advice and activities of YPRG.
What is the main purpose of the group?
YPRG has 3 main goals. These are:
To provide a forum for young people to provide input and consultation to Council processes, policies and strategies
To identify and promote issues of importance to young people in the City of Monash
To create opportunities for young people to meaningfully participate in civic life.
Young people drive the activities of the Monash YPRG with support from Council officers. A young person from the group acts as the chair and facilitates the meetings.
Who can join the group?
Membership is open to young people aged 15 -25 who live, work, play or go to school in the City of Monash. There are 19 places for young people in the group, with membership being drawn from young people from variety of diverse backgrounds.
What does the group do?
In addition to providing a direct voice to Council on issues that effect young people, the Monash YPRG has a number of sub-committees that have a particular portfolio focus on assisting Council to improve in their respective areas. These 'sub-groups' consist of: Environment, Multi-cultural / interfaith , communication and information awareness, and Health and well-being
The sub-groups have a project focus and assist Council to develop appropriate responses to identified issues within each portfolio area.
When does YPRG meet?
YPRG meets the first Wednesday of each month from 7 - 9pm. Sub-group meeting are held as needed between each of the formal meetings of YPRG

Applicants are required to attend a short interview, before their application is forwarded to Council for consideration
